Matthew 22:15-22 Gospel and Government Summary: Have you ever had someone try to get you into trouble? Today in our sermon, we will hear about people trying to get Jesus in trouble by asking him trick questions. The Jewish leaders wanted to find a way to kill Jesus. They must find a way for Jesus to get in trouble with the Romans so they will put him to death. The Jews had to pay money (called taxes) to the Roman king, and they hated that! So they asked Jesus: is it right to pay taxes? They hoped He would say no and get in trouble with the Romans. But instead Jesus turns their question back at them and shows them that we all owe God our whole life. Let’s think about it! Outline: 1. Render to Caesar: God calls us to respect those who rule over us 2. God calls us to give Him our whole life Verse: Psalm 111:1 Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
